Welcome to the new face of LHS99.com, the (currently) unofficial home of the Lowell High School Class of 1999 from Lowell, Michigan. We have public forums, a media gallery, and a wiki. If you are unfamiliar with wikis, take a peek at Wikipedia - a great online encyclopedia that anyone can contribute to (just like our wiki).
As you can see, the banner at the top of the page is quite boring. If you want to make a cooler banner, please feel free.

Media Gallery set up

It's slightly more complicated than the one on MSN Groups, but not too hard to figure out. You can make your own photo gallery, which can have separate albums (and those albums can be separated into albums too), all of which can have pictures and videos.
Note: Galleries are only available to our registered members, who are identified and in the "Class of 1999" user group. If you are a registered member of our site, and are our classmate from high school, drop me an email at lax@lavishsoft.com and tell me who you are :)
Here's how it works. First, make sure you're logged in.... On the left side in the gallery, click "Add Album". The Name part at the top is going to be a directory name on the server, not something that you'll ever see again really. Just make it your first name, or something more unique if necessary. It can't have special characters in it. Then give your album a title. Mine is Joe Thaler's gallery. The B, I, etc buttons at the top of each of the rest of the text boxes are for adding bold, italics, and other things, just like the forums, so you dont have to worry about that (my mom didn't understand it on my family's website). It's just going to hold any albums you want to make for later, like I have an album for my photos from the 5-year reunion. The Summary will be displayed under the title if you add one. You can add keywords if you want, I left mine empty. I also left my Description empty. You can change any of this later, so it's not a big deal and you dont have to put much thought into it. Just get it done so you can add some pictures or videos. Then click Create, and you are now the proud owner of your very own album in our gallery.
From the main album list, you now have a block with your album information. The "no thumbnail" link will get you into your gallery, and later you can set a Highlight picture to use for the link instead. Under that is a little << album actions >> box, which will let you delete, edit, or move the album (into another album of your own). Click the no thumbnail link and go into your gallery.
From your gallery, you will see "This album is empty." and "Add a photo!". Click on Add a photo now so I can explain how to add them. There's several different ways built into Gallery for you to add pictures or videos. There's 2 ways that I would consider the easiest. The first one you will see is "From Web Browser". This way you can browse to a file to add it, and it's really only efficient if you want to add one or two things to your album. It's far easier to click on "Upload Applet" and use that. Let it install (click Yes when it asks if you want to install it) and then you can either click "Add Pictures" or drag and drop pictures into the white box on the left (it will be a list of the files to send). Once you have all of them in the list, click Upload, and wait for it to finish! Once it's done, you can go back to your album by clicking the album name at the top of the Gallery area (where it says LHS99.com >> Gallery >> Album name). Then each picture has an << Item actions >> box, so you can delete, edit, move, or make it a highlight. Editing the photo will let you change the title, summary, description, and even let you put passwords on specific items. Make one a highlight and you're done! After there's already stuff in your albums, you can use the options on the left to add or edit things.
That's pretty much it. Theres other cool stuff but there's the basics for ya!

Wow, I'm kind of mad I didn't start reading this particular thread on our message board earlier. Apparently, our good friend Dan Vosovic is on the Bravo channel's Project Runway show, currently in season 2. Exciting stuff! Here's a link to his bio on the bravo web site: http://www.bravotv.com/Project_Runway_2/Bios/Designers/Daniel_V
Dont miss the audition video, it's pretty funny.
Congrats Dan and good luck!
Update on 2/10/2006: Jeff Pfaller spotted Dan on this cnn.com article http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/02/02/fashion.tv/index.html

Our Wiki
[2005.03.02 22:57]

I've got some very basic info on our wiki. I plan on expanding it so that it's not just for the class of 1999, but will also have local history and info on the areas surrounding Lowell. As is mentioned, anyone can add or change information on the wiki, and if you wanted to tell a little bit about yourself and what you like, it's a bit less lame than having a random personal home page on geocities.
Additionally, anyone can upload images to the wiki for use in pages. It might seem a little more difficult to use for sharing pictures than the old system used by MSN Groups, but this is far better. The image system is built for use in "articles", but you can also make your own little photo gallery page if you'd like.
Finally, I added the same system for linking within the wki to our forums. To link to a page in the wiki, use the title of the page itself and surround it with two sets of brackets like this:
[[Lowell, Michigan]]
You can also give the link a different name, as I have done in the first link to Lowell in this post. To do that, put the new name for the link on the right side of a | within those brackets, like this:
[[Lowell, Michigan|Lowell]]
The same system is used in the wiki itself.
Let me know if you guys think we should have anything else on the new site. I can set up email boxes at lhs99.com for anyone that wants that as well (uses POP3 or IMAP like Outlook Express or Thunderbird, not web-based like hotmail).

It might not look like much at the moment, but will become more polished in the next week or two. Go ahead and register on the forum, and let's get back to having some fun talking to our old classmates. :)
The crappy default theme on the forums will be replaced with something a bit nicer and less tacky, don't worry! (update: The forum theme has been replaced)
